Purple. It exists by a million names, all adjectives that
both describe a place within a spectrum and a mood
instilled. Purple is commonly a combination of, in fact,
two far-apart lovers, a dance of red and blue. A waltz
of crimson and cyan. A tango of burgundy and azure.
We bleed red, but we’re told blood is blue before it gets
a breath of the world outside our skin.
Sometimes, my blood
is purple. It’s mauve,
or magenta. But,
often a bold, yet calm,
violet.
Blue seeps from my body, until it shines crimson. The true
gift is under the skin.
It’s mixture.
It’s balance, it’s compromise.
This purple won’t leave. Etches letters across my veins,
screaming epithets in my ears,
the warmth only brings shivering nights, and you may be
blue. You may even burn a fire-like red, with highlights of blue and orange.
Poisoned, drugged, blessed, cured; a river of violet pules through my veins.
indefinitely.
